Issue Position: National Security

Issue Position

The most fundamental and constitutionally-mandated responsibility of our federal government.

At Home: Since the tragic events of September 11, 2001, there has been an increased focus on guarding Americans inside our borders. There is a careful balance to achieve between security and personal liberty. While true security is founded in individual liberty and self-government, I believe that federal, state, and local law enforcement officers and agencies must have access to the tools and resources they need to defend our nation.

Abroad: Our men and women serving in combat deserve to have all of the resources they need in order to complete missions abroad. Upon their return, it is our obligation to ensure that they have the resources they need in order to return to stateside and civilian life, including access to educational and health services.

On the Border: A key component of our national security is protecting our borders. It is the responsibility of the federal government to make sure we know who is coming in to the country. Porous and unsecured borders allow those who wish to harm us an easy entry into the United States.
