Rep. Becerra Statement on Appointment to Select Committee on Deficit Reduction

Statement

Today the Democratic Leader in the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi announced the selection of Democratic House members Xavier Becerra (CA-31), James E. Clyburn (SC-6) and Chris Van Hollen (MD-8) to serve on the 12-member bipartisan Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. Representative Xavier Becerra (CA-31), Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus, Ranking Member of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security, and member of the 2010 National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, released the following statement:

"It is an honor and a great responsibility to be entrusted with this assignment by our Leader Nancy Pelosi.

We face a defining challenge for the future of our nation: Will America lead by putting its economy back on track and its people back to work? This select committee gives us a chance to prove that we can tackle our biggest deficit--the jobs deficit--at the same time that we restore fiscal responsibility in our budget.

I look forward to working with my 11 colleagues to present to the people of our country an American solution to this challenge. Working in a bipartisan fashion without damaging pre-conditions will guarantee the greatest chance of success. And I thank Leader Pelosi for once again making sure that the voices of all Americans are at the table."
