Lummis Response to President's Joint Address to Congress

Statement

Date: Sept. 9, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) released the following statement after the President's Joint Session of Congress:

"Innovation, independence and free market principles are the foundations of economic growth in America and have historically empowered America's prominence in the global economy. But as we have seen in the past several years, an environment of uncertainty resulting from the weakening of America's traditional economic principles and a move toward European-style social democracy has America's job creators hunkering down.

"Some of the ideas the President outlined this evening warrant further consideration, but like so many of his speeches, President Obama was long on words and short on the details. With national unemployment at or above 8 percent for 30 consecutive months, it's clear that America simply cannot afford Washington's continued lack of leadership. Washington's short-term fixes for long-term problems are not an option."

"In my travels around Wyoming, people tell me they want an effective government that fosters a strong business climate. Wyoming people understand that the government can create work, but only the private sector can create jobs. We need bold solutions that make America's job creators confident in our country once again. Job-focused, entrepreneurial economic policies will awaken American ingenuity and free the job creators to do what they do best -- put millions of their fellow Americans back to work."
