Statement

Date: Sept. 2, 2011
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Labor Unions

U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today released the following statement marking Labor Day.

"On this Labor Day and every day, it is so important for us to acknowledge and thank the hardworking men and women who built this nation, and who continue to keep this state and our country running," Senator Manchin said. "West Virginians have always set the bar for productivity, quality and innovation, and our work ethic is second to none.

"I know that to our hardworking men and women in West Virginia -- especially in these most difficult times -- there is nothing more precious than high quality jobs. West Virginians do not want a handout -- they want a work permit that gives them the ability to provide for themselves and their families. And each and every day, I am committed to fighting to bring good jobs to West Virginia.

"I want to thank the hardworking men and women of West Virginia for all that you do. May God bless you, and may God bless the state of West Virginia."
