Statement By Robert Hurt On The Latest Unemployment Report

Statement

Congressman Robert Hurt (R-VA) today released the following statement after the Department of Labor issued the September unemployment report:

"Today's disappointing jobs report proves that the continued threat of tax increases, excessive regulations, and more failed stimulus spending is stalling our economic recovery.

"The House has already passed several bipartisan, pro-growth jobs bills that would help turn our economy around by removing the government as a barrier to job creation to restore certainty to the marketplace. These measures would reduce unnecessary regulations, increase our domestic energy supply, cut government spending, and keep taxes low to provide our true job creators with the freedom, opportunity, and confidence necessary to expand and put people back to work.

"The Senate should act immediately and pass these commonsense pieces of legislation that would help spur job creation across the country. With unemployment remaining above 9 percent, we cannot afford to have a do-nothing Senate continue to block economic progress.

"It is my hope that the Senate will put partisan politics aside, and join with us in the House in moving our economy forward and working to create the sustainable private sector jobs that 5th District Virginians and all Americans need and deserve."
