Griffin: Taxpayer Dollars Shouldn't Be Used to Pay for Abortions

Press Release

Date: Oct. 13, 2011
Location: Little Rock, AR

Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement after House passage of the Protect Life Act (H.R. 358):

"President Obama's 2010 health care law leaves open the possibility that U.S. taxpayers could be forced to pay for abortions. Unlike an Executive Order, which can be revoked at any time, the Protect Life Act would carry the force of law and defend the unborn."

H.R. 358 amends the President's 2010 health care law to prohibit the use of federal funds to purchase insurance plans that cover abortion services. It also places additional requirements on health benefits offered through insurance exchanges and protects health care professionals with additional conscience protections. The bill provides exceptions for instances involving rape, incest or a threat to the life of the mother as a result of the pregnancy.
