Thompson Statement on Omnibus Spending Package

Statement

Date: Dec. 15, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement regarding the homeland security provisions in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2012 (H.R. 3671):

"The Appropriations package that was released yesterday by House Republicans is an insult to the courageous first responders who, all around the country, have stepped up to meet the new challenges of a post-9/11 world. In the years since 9/11, DHS has provided considerable resources to help build capacity to respond to all types of emergencies. We cannot afford to lose this security safety net. While we understand we need to tighten our budget, we cannot afford to have our Nation's emergency response budget slashed - our local communities depend on it."
