Statement

Date: Jan. 19, 2012

Congressman Connolly reiterated his opposition to the Stop Online Piracy Act on Wednesday. Connolly was quoted in various media outlets highlighting his concerns about SOPA's threat to a free and open Internet, as well as the consequences it would have on the high tech industry in Virginia's 11th district and on small Internet businesses.

"Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11th district), via Facebook: "I remain opposed to the Stop Online Piracy Act. We need a free and open Internet. SOPA will have unintended consequences against the high tech industry in our district, and place undue burdens on our small internet businesses. Congress must continue to work with merchants, content providers, and Internet Service Providers to strike the right balance."
