Statement

Date: March 1, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, and the sponsor of the Respect for Marriage Act to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), applauded the addition of Maryland as the eighth state to pass marriage equality and recognize the rights of committed gay and lesbian couples.

"Maryland citizens should be proud of their Governor and legislators of both parties for courageously upholding the civil rights and dignity of all Marylanders," said Nadler. "With eight states and the District of Columbia now embracing the equality of all their citizens, and powerful challenges to DOMA in our federal courts and congress, the national movement for marriage equality is gaining undeniable momentum."
