Issue Position: Energy for America's Future

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

We have to make use of all of our natural resources, and allow new technologies to develop at their own pace in the private sector. Our dependence of foreign oil is one of our nation's greatest vulnerabilities. The United States must become the leader in efficient energy production strategies and tactics, led by the private sector. But we also have to understand that we live in a globally interdependent economy. We must work with our international partners to ensure the stability of global energy markets and the growth of economic opportunities. At the same time, we have to ensure that while we are making the best use of our natural resources, we do so in a responsible manner. Nobody wants to drink polluted water or breathe bad air. I am an avid mountain climber and adventurer, and I know as well as anyone the value of our natural landscapes. So while we need to make our natural resources available to Americans for generations to come, we also have to ensure that the companies and individuals entrusted with developing those resources are good stewards of the land and environment in the process.
