House Passes Paul Ryan's Path to Prosperity Budget

Press Release

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Path to Prosperity, a Fiscal Year 2013 budget for the federal government. U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo) joined 227 colleagues voting in favor of the budget, reconfirming the Republican commitment to addressing and tackling this country's financial problems.

"This budget is a credible and serious attempt to address and change our nation's spending problem," Rep. Lummis said. "We're $15 trillion in debt and on a trajectory to double national spending within the decade. This is the biggest threat to our country."

The Path to Prosperity would dramatically cut government spending, balance the national budget and returns Medicare power and decisions back to our nation's seniors and out of the hands of unelected bureaucrats. The House considered two other main budget proposals. The House Democratic budget was defeated 163 to 262. The Budget submitted by President Obama was defeated 0 to 414.

"Medicare as it exists is going broke," Rep. Lummis said. "That is why I am so proud the House Budget Committee had the gusto to tackle this threatening issue head on. That's also why I chose to support the House Budget Committee's FY2013 Budget."
