"It's time to put Connecticut back to work. During this recession, more than 100,000 people have lost their jobs in our state. I know families and small businesses are struggling. It's going to take a while for Connecticut and our country to dig out of the economic hole that a decade of failed leadership and misplaced priorities in Washington got us into. The heart of our economy is on Main Street, and I understand the important role small businesses play in job creation." -Susan Bysiewicz

A Record of Supporting Job Creation

Helped small businesses succeed: Susan cut bureaucratic tape for businesses by allowing them to register and file online, freeing them to focus on creating jobs.

Created the CT Small and Minority Business Showcase: Susan developed the Connecticut Small and Minority Business Showcase which provided technical assistance to and allowed small, micro, minority and women-owned businesses to display their goods and services to the public and to their fellow business owners, gave the public the opportunity to appreciate and support the efforts of these entrepreneurs, and provided business owners with the opportunity to network with one another.

Convened small business roundtables: Susan created a series of small business roundtables throughout Connecticut to bring small business owners together with local and state officials to discuss policy initiatives that would enhance the business climate in our state.

Susan's Priorities for Job Creation

Support small business: Susan knows that small businesses will lead the state's and the country's economic recovery. Small businesses are our nation's jobs and innovation engine, and Susan will fight to support them by cutting red tape, simplifying the tax code and making sure they have the resources they need to thrive.

Create clean-energy jobs: Susan believes that we must produce new sources of clean, homegrown energy to fuel our economy for the new century. Investing in research by our colleges and universities to develop new technologies will create green jobs and foster our energy independence.

Rebuild our infrastructure: Susan will make sure Connecticut gets its fair share of federal investment dollars to rebuild our aging roads and bridges and connect our cities and towns with high speed rail.

Revitalize Connecticut's manufacturing sector: When Susan was growing up,Connecticut made things. In every corner of our state, factories small and large produced goods that were sold all over the world. Our children didn't have to leave the state to find work. They could get a good education, a good job and raise a family right here in Connecticut. Too often, that is no longer the case. Susan believes that if we pair the vast potential of Connecticut's people with the innovative research conducted by our colleges and universities, Connecticut can once again produce world class goods and create manufacturing jobs.

Stop shipping jobs overseas: In order to truly expand our manufacturing opportunities in Connecticut, we must eliminate the tax breaks that encourage corporations to ship jobs overseas. Susan believes that future trade deals must ensure that Connecticut's workers are competing on an even playing field with foreign workers.
