As a child, my mother taught me that it's not what you earn in life, it's what you do with what you earn. The same is true for Congress. Congress takes in plenty of money, in fact, for every $.58 cents we send to Washington, Congress borrows an additional $.42 cents. Sending more money to Washington in the form of higher taxes is not necessary, nor is it acceptable or responsible. If we will hold Congress accountable to how they spend our money, it will alleviate the need for sending them more money.
That being said, this country has too many people riding on the wagon and not enough people pulling the wagon. In 2010, 47% of Americans paid no income tax. I feel this is unacceptable. Everyone in this country should pay their fair share of taxes. Certainly, poorer people will pay less; wealthy more. However, everyone can contribute something, lest we become a people completely dependent on the government, which is where we are rapidly heading.
