Issue Position: States' Rights

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

I believe our Founders intended the role of the federal government was to provide a strong national security and to protect our freedoms. All other rights and obligations were reserved to the states. Today, our federal government is more involved in our daily lives than ever before. From healthcare and education to environmental and labor law, the federal government is regulating small businesses and individuals at an unprecedented rate and to an unprecedented degree. This cannot continue as it is killing our economy and was never the intended purposes of the federal government. I will support strong states' rights and a more limited federal government. Let each state and its people be independent to decide the laws under which they wish to live. Keep the federal government doing what it was intended to do: to protect our freedoms, not abrogate them.
