Boswell Statement on House Republican Budget Vote

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Leonard Boswell (IA-3) today released a statement following his vote against the Republican Fiscal Year 2013 Budget Resolution (H.Con.Res. 112).

"Today, House Republicans voted against our seniors and the backbone of our country -- the middle class. This extreme budget from House Republicans ends the Medicare guarantee, increasing seniors' out-of-pocket costs by nearly $6,000; cuts a staggering $810 billion over 10 years from Medicaid, destroys millions of American jobs, robs our future generations of educational opportunities, all while giving a massive tax breaks to millionaires and billionaires.

"I instead supported a commonsense, balanced approach which reduces the debt, protects Medicare, invests in America's future by creating jobs and strengthens the middle class. The Ryan Republican budget passed out of the House does nothing but give tax breaks to the very wealthy at the expense of hardworking Americans and seniors."
