Dear Friend,

As always, it is a great honor to represent you in Congress. Please take a few minutes to read a quick update below on my fight for you in Congress.

Fighting for an Accountable Congress
As a Constitutional conservative, I know that passing a federal budget is one of Congress' most important duties. Yet, in the past few years, Washington politicians have not done their jobs and have not enacted a budget. In fact, the Senate has not passed a budget in over 3 years. This is completely unacceptable. Americans should be able to count on Congress to respect the Constitution and complete its work on time. To help end this abuse by Washington's do-nothing, business-as-usual politicians -- I have co-sponsored legislation that would prohibit salary payments to Members of Congress unless both the House and Senate pass a budget. If Congress cannot do their jobs, they should not be collecting paychecks from the hardworking American people.

Fighting for Energy Independence
As some of you may know, I recently called for the resignation of Region 6 EPA Administrator Al Armendariz amid the release of video footage which showed Armendariz touting the EPA's crucifixion of oil companies and proving the overreaching EPA wants nothing more than to kill our fossil fuel industry. Less than 48 hours after I introduced House Resolution 635 -- which highlighted the importance of the oil and gas industry, detailed Armendariz's attack on the fossil fuel industry, and called for Armendariz's resignation -- Aremendariz submitted his resignation. I hope he is replaced with an honest, experienced person who errs on the side of safe, prosperous energy development instead of extreme, political agendas. And, I will continue to do all I can to secure America's energy independence.

Fighting for Our Shrimpers
As South Louisiana's representative, I know firsthand that Louisiana fishermen are some of the hardest-working people in the county; and I am proud to do all I can to support them. This month, the House passed an amendment I offered that will prohibit funds appropriated in the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act from being used to require Turtle Excluder Devices on skimmer or butterfly type fishing nets. My amendment prohibits a costly and unnecessary regulation from being forced upon shrimpers in the Gulf of Mexico. I am thankful my colleagues, in a strong bi-partisan manner, supported our shrimpers and sent my amendment to the Senate.

Again, it is an honor to be your voice in Congress; and I know that together we can win the fights for an accountable Congress, energy independence, and our Louisiana shrimpers. As always, I love to hear from you. Please feel free to email, call, facebook, or tweet your ideas, questions, and concerns.

Sincerely,

Representative Jeff Landry
Congressman, 3rd District of Louisiana
