My office recently debuted the "Carson in Your Corner" video series to highlight constituent success stories in Indiana's 7th Congressional District. The video series will emphasize services provided by our district office here in Indianapolis, and introduces viewers to those who have benefitted from reaching out for help.

In this week's Courier, I'm proud to introduce the Seligman Family.

VIDEO: Carson in Your Corner: The Seligman Family -- Part 1

In August of 2007, U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant Christopher Seligman was injured when an improvised explosive device (IED), also known as a roadside bomb, detonated beside his military vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq. When he returned home, Chris and his family knew they faced significant challenges and a long road to recovery, but they did not anticipate the difficulties in receiving the Purple Heart, a military acknowledgment given to those wounded or killed during deployment. After two years of trying on their own to fight through the red tape, the Seligmans reached out to my office for help.

In addition to my legislative duties in D.C., my staff and I are happy to assist constituents from the 7th District with a variety of services, including troubleshooting with federal agencies, offering grant support to local community organizations, providing information and resources for small businesses, offering Congressional Recognitions for constituents who perform exemplary community service or have signature achievements, and help with scheduling Capitol and White House tours. Please call my district office at 317-283-6516 or visit www.carson.house.gov to learn how we can help.

Reauthorization of Export Import Bank Is a Big Win for Small Businesses

This week, I joined a bipartisan group of legislators as President Obama signed the Export-Import Bank Reauthorization Act of 2012, a bipartisan bill that will reauthorize the Bank to continue financing U.S. exports and ensure a level playing field for U.S. businesses, at no cost to American taxpayers. This legislation ensures that U.S. workers and businesses can compete successfully in global markets by supporting export of goods and services overseas. This reauthorization is a huge win for many small businesses in the 7th District who will benefit from nearly $2 billion in Export-Import Bank financing. As we seek to strengthen our economy and rebuild American manufacturing, legislation like this leads the way.

Expansion of the Barrington Health and Dental Center Increases Access to Health Care

For nearly 40 years, HealthNet's Barrington Health and Dental Center has provided affordable, quality care to countless patients on the south side of Indianapolis. Charged with a mission to improve lives by delivering compassionate health and dental care and a wide variety of support services, regardless of ability to pay, the expansion of this facility will improve public health and increase access to all those in need.

Thanks to nearly $10 million in federal funds that my office helped to secure, HealthNet recently celebrated the grand opening of its expanded Barrington Health and Dental Center. Under the inspired leadership of CEO and President Booker Thomas, this organization continues to do incredible work, and our community is healthier and happier because of it. I congratulate HealthNet for the extraordinary work it has done and will continue to do for constituents in my district.

Thank you for reading the Carson Courier.
