Plummer's Statement on the June 1 Employment Report

Statement

Date: June 1, 2012

Jason Plummer, candidate for Illinois' 12th Congressional District, called Friday's dismal jobs report a symbol of the failed economic policies of the president and his congressional allies.

"It has been three-and-a-half-years since the president and his liberal allies exacted their big spending and big government initiatives, and we are still seeing the economy moving in the wrong direction," Plummer said. "Far too many Americans are out of work and unable to find work due to the failed policies coming from Washington.

The economic data released from the U.S. Labor Department on Friday showed that employers only created 69,000 jobs in May, far fewer than analysts predicted. In addition, the unemployment rate rose to 8.2 percent after nearly 50,000 fewer jobs were created in April and May than originally thought.

"As the president's record shows, big spending sprees by the government will not get us out of this economic malaise," Plummer added. "We need to elect officials who will create a business-friendly environment, help put Main Street Americans back to work, and not demagogue job creators."

"Southern Illinois is blessed with an abundance of natural resources. Opening the Keystone XL Pipeline, eliminating regulations on small businesses and getting the Environmental Protection Agency off the backs of our energy producers would create thousands of jobs across the region and help reverse the unacceptable unemployment pattern," Plummer added.
