Issue Position: Championing Our Public Schools

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

My wife and I have four girls from the ages of nine to one. My goal is to create an educational environment that gives all children, including our own, the best chance to be successful later in life. Our kids are not competing with just other kids on the eastside but with kids from other states and other countries around the world. Simply put, our public schools need to do a better job preparing kids for the future than they did when I was a kid or my parents were kids.

I don't want to sound an alarm but our kids will falter economically if we do not prepare them for today's global economy. This will mean more rigorous math and science standards. We will need to expect excellence from our principals and teachers and we will need to ensure they are paid in accordance with our expectations.
