Issue Position: Drug Testing of State Employees

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012
Issues: Drugs

Any law that allows for random drug testing of state employees ought to be repealed. Testing should be limited to situations based on reasonable grounds. Reasonable involves a consideration of all relevant factors to include a consideration of the nature of the job and the behavior of the employee. This criteria protects the public and ensures no one is simply targeted or harassed. State employees provide important services and are a valuable resource to the state. They should not be penalized to score political points.
