Issue Position: The Importance of Prevailing Wage Laws

Issue Position

We must ensure that public investment in education and infrastructure includes provisions for fair wages. I am a strong supporter of the Davis-Bacon Act and prevailing wage laws, but we need to do more to ensure that contractors and subcontractors really are paying the prevailing wages they state they will in their bids. I will sponsor a House companion bill to Senator Maralyn Chase's legislation requiring certified payrolls for public works projects and requiring proof that contractually-specified are really paid. This will allow for audits, and I will seek to have the State Auditor review public works contracts to ensure compliance.
