Issue Position: Michigan's Economy

Issue Position

The most urgent task at hand is fostering Michigan's path to economic revival. Since December, 2001, Michigan has lost over 288,000 private sector jobs, and more than 100,000 people from its population base. While this has occurred, our elected officials enact higher tax, regulatory, and tort liability burdens. Michigan now needs bold growth initiatives that capitalize on science and technology, especially in the use of abundant domestic energy reserves. Our tax rates must be lower, and it must become cheaper to do business in Michigan. Excessive government spending and counterproductive regulations must simultaneously be halted if we are to create a new prosperity for this State.
