Issue Position: Military & Veterans

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

We owe a debt of gratitude to current and former members of the armed services who have served our country. Alaska is home to the highest percentage of veterans in America; our state must be responsive to the needs of these distinguished men and women. From streamlining claims for medical care; aiding them in securing home loans; or assisting them in finding work in our state, Alaska must continue to ensure that its veterans are receiving the recognition and benefits they deserve.

Alaska is an important strategic location and home to over 24,000 active duty military personnel. These men and women are stationed at bases throughout the state, including three major Army bases, three Air Force bases, and two major Coast Guard air stations. The state and Legislature must strive to make Alaska a welcoming and attractive place for military personnel and installations.
