Bayou Chene Flood Control Project Approved

Statement

Date: Sept. 28, 2012
Location: New Iberia, LA
Issues: Infrastructure

Congressman Jeff Landry (R, LA-03) released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) approved the Bayou Chene Flood Control Infrastructure Improvement Plan:

"The Bayou Chene Flood Control Project was created by locals out of local necessity. During last year's spring flood, the Corps of Engineers quickly approved all permits and the St. Mary Levee District built the temporary system in record time. Today, we are seeing the EDA follow their lead and help complete the project. This is a great example of how government should work: local ideas coming forward without being constrained by government red tape for the good of the people. After local and state funding was exhausted, the federal government is providing the last few dollars to make this project a reality. I will continue working to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in federal budgets so we can fund critical priorities like this moving forward."
