Government Should Not Fund Abortions

Statement

Dr. Dan Benishek released the following statement regarding the one-year anniversary of his vote to protect the unborn by supporting the "Protect Life Act."

"The government should not be in the business of funding abortions. The "Protect Life Act' prohibits federal funds from being used to pay for an abortion and ensures that anyone who does not want to participate in performing an abortion is protected from discrimination. This legislation became necessary because so-called "pro-life' Democrats like Bart Stupak and Gary McDowell cast aside their principles to support the President's health care law.

"The "Protect Life Act' also prevents the Obama Administration from trampling on religious freedoms by affording religious institutions the option of not providing care that would run counter to their religious beliefs. Religious freedom is one of America's founding principles and forcing organizations to break with their own doctrines is a violation of that freedom. Ensuring that all Americans, regardless of their religious beliefs, are able to freely adhere to their religion is incredibly important to me and that is why I voted for this critical bill."
