Issue Position

Farmers have long been the most conscientious stewards of the land, and as Commissioner of Agriculture, I will work with West Virginia farmers and landowners to continue protecting our State's natural beauty by preserving our natural resources using sound science and proven technology. As Commissioner of Agriculture, I will form partnerships with our State's universities to bring our best experts in chemistry, ecology, and environmental science to the table to work alongside those of us in agriculture. At the same time, I will stand up to the outsiders who blame agriculture for all the environmental problems in West Virginia. As Commissioner, I will utilize the resources and expertise of the West Virginia Department of Agriculture to champion the rights of those farmers and landowners who practice sound environmental stewardship, and I will safeguard our environment by working with other state agencies to correct those areas where better management is required. Protecting West Virginia's environment will be a key priority for me while serving as Commissioner of Agriculture.
