Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell Hosts Bi-Partisan Congressional Delegation in Alabama

This weekend March 1-3, Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell (D-AL) is hosting the 13th Annual Faith and Politics Institute's Congressional Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Alabama. The Pilgrimage is co-hosted by Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL), Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) and Rep. Sewell (D-AL). The bi-partisan trip allows participants to retrace the steps of our nation's Civil Rights icons through the historic sites in Alabama.
This year, 27 Members of Congress will be in attendance. Participants will include Senator Christopher Coons (D-DE), Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and House Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA). Vice President Joe Biden will join the group in Selma on Sunday for the Bridge Crossing Reenactment.
"I am honored to welcome my colleagues and Vice President Biden to the 7th Congressional District of Alabama," Rep. Sewell said. "Our district is home to many of our nation's historic civil rights sites. I believe it is important that we must acknowledge our painful past and frame its significance in the global fight for civil and human rights. Hosting the bi-partisan delegation will give us the opportunity to reflect on our painful past while acknowledging our current progress. I hope my colleagues will leave Alabama with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to promoting our shared democratic values of justice and equality."
Details of Congressional Trip:
The Bi-Partisan Congressional Delegation will visit historic landmarks that played a pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement. The delegation will be in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham on Friday, then Montgomery on Saturday and Selma on Sunday.
The Pilgrimage will conclude on the 48th Anniversary of Bloody Sunday with a reenactment of the historic march from Selma to Montgomery. The delegation will be joined by Vice President Biden and other Civil Rights luminaries and national leaders.
