Rokita: Tax-Raising Senate Budget is "Unbalanced and Unserious"

U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita, a member of the House Budget Committee, today issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate passed a budget that includes up to $1.5 trillion in new taxes and never balances:

"The budget passed by the United States Senate is a tax-raising, deficit-exploding mess. While the Senate should at least be commended for passing a budget for the first time in four years, the final product is no reason to celebrate.

"The Senate budget raises taxes by as much as $1.5 trillion, which will stifle job growth and do nothing to address the drivers of our debt. This is a proven recipe for bigger government, increasing deficits and debt, and a sick economy.

"The one bright spot was the Senate's successful passage of an amendment to repeal the job-killing medical device tax, which threatens thousands of Hoosier jobs. But that is only one victory in what is otherwise an unbalanced and unserious excuse for a budget," said Rokita.

Rokita, a member of the House Budget Committee, helped to write and pass H. Con. Res. 25, the House Budget Resolution for Fiscal Year 2014, which -- contrary to the Senate budget -- balances in ten years by repealing ObamaCare, fixing the broken tax code and reforming social safety net programs. The budget includes Medicaid reforms advanced by Rokita in his State Health Flexibility Act. The House passed the resolution earlier this week 221-207.
