Peace Votes to Prevent Shutdown, Reduce Spending

Statement

Today, U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce voted in favor of the continuing resolution, which averts a government shutdown while controlling overspending and protecting important programs.

"Thanks to today's continuing resolution," said Pearce, "the programs Americans rely on--from Social Security and Medicare to funding for national security--will remain safe. It is vital that Washington reign in its spending problem and achieve a balanced budget, and today's continuing resolution--which contains significant spending reductions--is a step in the right direction."

The continuing resolution, which passed with bipartisan support, will fund the government through September 30, 2013, averting the government shutdown that would have gone into effect with the expiration of the current continuing resolution at the end of this month.
