Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement in response to remarks made by Congressman Don Young of Alaska, who referred to migrant farmworkers as "wetbacks":

"Congressman Young's remarks are offensive and inexcusable thirteen years into the 21st century. His statement demeans the arduous labor and extreme hardship that migrant farmworkers experience harvesting the food that we put on our tables. Perhaps this helps Americans better understand why it is taking Republicans so long to catch up to the rest of America in support of a sensible solution to fix our broken immigration system."
