Congressman Xavier Becerra on the Third Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act

Statement

Date: March 22, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

To mark the three-year anniversary of President Barack Obama signing the Affordable Care Act into law, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and Ranking Member of the Social Security Subcommittee, released the following statement:

"Three years after the Affordable Care Act became the law of the land, we're still witnessing how profoundly it changes the everyday lives of millions of Americans for the better. It has ensured access to quality affordable healthcare, lowered our seniors' prescription bills, and protected women, children, and working families from unfair insurance practices. The Affordable Care Act has moved our country closer to becoming a more perfect union.

"Thanks to its passage, over 100 million Americans have received preventive services with no cost to them; 3.1 million more young adults now have health care coverage under their parents' plan; 3.5 million Americans with Medicare saved an average of more than $706 each on their prescriptions in 2012; and 105 million Americans no longer have a lifetime limit on their coverage.

"And while the law's constitutionality has been reaffirmed, it must still be defended so that millions of Americans continue to benefit from being in charge of their health care choices."
