U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) today issued the following statement regarding allegations that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) improperly targeted political groups for additional scrutiny:

It's outrageous and totally improper for the IRS or any federal agency to single out individuals or groups based on their political beliefs. This matter should be investigated promptly and those responsible should be held accountable. I'll work with my colleagues in Congress to make sure that happens.
