Wagner Sends Student Loan Fix to President's Desk

Statement

Date: July 31, 2013

"I will never forget that joyous day when I graduated college with the hopes and dreams of a brighter future. However, I knew that my husband and I had a long road before we could pay-off our student loans. That is why I have been fighting tirelessly for the thousands of Americans who saw their student loans double as a result of the Senate's inability to put progress ahead of partisanship.

"Today the House once again stood up for the American people, and passed a long-term, market-based solution that will stop Washington politicians from arbitrarily setting student loan rates. This solution was largely based on a proposal put forth by the President this year.

"The American people know that student loans have no political affiliation, no agenda, and no partiality. As a result, I am pleased that the Democrat-led senate finally passed a plan that mirrored the solution the House put forward last month, where it now awaits the President's signature. Today's bipartisan agreement is a step in the right direction, and I look forward to working with my colleagues across the aisle in the future."
