Brownsberger Calls for Action to Avoid National Debt Default

Noting the negative economic consequences of a continued government shutdown, Democratic 5th district candidate Will Brownsberger today called for increased effort from elected leaders to reach an agreement and prevent a default on our nation's debt.

"As the shutdown continues, the threat of national debt default looms," Brownsberger said. "The Tea Party Republicans are over-reaching by holding up approval of both the budget and the country's credit extension to further their goal of undermining the Affordable Care Act. While Democrats are right to take a tough public negotiating posture, I hope and trust that the President and all members of Congress know in their hearts that they share absolute responsibility for avoiding a default on our debt. Default is an entirely unacceptable outcome -- an economic tragedy with irreversible long-term consequences."
