Governor, Lt. Governor, Cabinet to Hold Pumpkin Patch to Benefit Midwest Food Bank

On Tuesday, October 15, Governor Mike Pence, Lt. Governor Sue Ellspermann, Cabinet members and staff will sell pumpkins to benefit the Midwest Food Bank as part of the 2013-2014 State Employees' Community Campaign (SECC).

"The importance of helping our fellow Hoosiers cannot be overstated," said Governor Pence. "As we near the holiday season, we invite Hoosiers from all over to take part in our Great Pumpkin Patch to raise funds for the Midwest Food Bank, help to combat hunger, and make a difference across Indiana."

The Governor's Great Pumpkin Patch will be held on the South Lawn of the Statehouse from 11:30 a.m. EDT to 1:00 p.m. EDT. The Governor, Lt. Governor and Cabinet members will be helping with the sale of pumpkins as well as cookies and apple cider.

As part of his inaugural efforts, Governor Pence collected 1,475 pounds of food and $2,521 in cash donations for Midwest Food Bank, a nonprofit organization that helps to feed more than 100,000 people each month. In sum, the donations helped to provide a meal to 25,000 Hoosiers.

The SECC is the annual charity campaign administered by state employees. Over the past 35 years, state employees have contributed more than $25 million to charities of their choice.
