Fleming Donates Shutdown Pay

Statement

Congressman John Fleming, M.D., who pledged to donate his congressional pay earned during the government shutdown, released the following statement after sending charitable donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Ark-La-Tex Crisis Pregnancy Center:

"It is a privilege to support the work of the Ark-La-Tex Crisis Pregnancy Center and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Pregnancy centers are on the frontlines when it comes to protecting the unborn and supporting women in crisis pregnancies, while the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation works daily to stop a terrible disease. As a physician, and as the grandparent of a child with Cystic Fibrosis, and as someone committed to protecting life, I am deeply grateful for the work of both of these organizations.

"I worked hard and voted repeatedly to keep the federal government open and running. I also promised to donate any congressional pay that I earned during that time when so many government workers were not sure if they would get paid. I am happy to be able to fulfill that promise with such worthy organizations."
