Congressman Xavier Becerra Applauds President Obama's Promise Zone Designation for Communities in Los Angeles

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after attending an event in the East Room of the White House where President Barack Obama announced that one of the Promise Zones will be located in Los Angeles and include communities in the 34th Congressional District such as Pico-Union, Westlake and Koreatown:

"Americans want a government that is working for them. Too many Americans living on Main Street are still reeling from the worst recession since the Great Depression while Wall Street millionaires are cashing in on record gains in the stock market. President Obama understands that his role is to give each American the opportunity to work to achieve the American Dream. This is why I am very supportive of his Promise Zones initiative that seeks to use the best ideas and resources locally and nationally to build ladders of opportunity to create jobs in our communities in Los Angeles."
