Duckworth Diary - December 20, 2013

Statement

Date: Dec. 20, 2013

Dear Neighbors,

I am happy to have spent this past week at home here in the 8th District.

On Monday, I hosted a Consumer Protection Seminar in Itasca. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Illinois Attorney General's office, the Federal Trade Commission and the Citizens Utility Board all brought great resources for my neighbors. The seniors citizens who attended learned how to best protect themselves from fraud.

On Tuesday, my office presented an Affordable Care Act Informational Workshop in Schaumburg. Over 100 people came to learn more about the ACA and how to enroll for healthcare.

Later in the week, I hosted "When Women Succeed, America Succeeds": a networking event and panel for business owners in the 8th District. The event took place at the Roselle Village Hall, and I was pleased to have the Mayor of Roselle, Gayle Smolinski, join us. It was great to see so many women entrepreneurs sharing contacts and their experiences.

On Thursday, I spoke at the graduation ceremony for DeVry University. It was inspiring to speak to our next generation of leaders, especially those military men and women who were using the post 911 GI bill.

Today I held a Veterans Forum in Hanover Park. I was happy to meet so many Veterans who have served our country, while also stopping to visit the Hanover Park Veterans Memorial. We talked about issues that are affecting Veterans and how the Federal government and my office can help.

I hope you have a great weekend, and best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season.

Sincerely,

Congresswoman Duckworth
