Rokita Expresses Support for Indiana's Request for Already Budgeted Federal Disaster Assistance

Press Release

Date: Dec. 4, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Representative Todd Rokita released the following statement today in support of Governor Mike Pence's request for federal disaster assistance for Howard County to aid in recovery from the damage caused by severe storms and tornadoes on November 17.

"Recovery from these storms continues. Hoosiers continue to help Hoosiers through these trying times, but some disasters require more. I fully support the Governor's request for already budgeted disaster assistance. Should funds be required beyond those already appropriated, I will work with my colleagues to ensure this assistance is paid for by making cuts elsewhere in the federal budget," Rokita said.

As further damage throughout the state is evaluated, the Governor may consider requesting federal disaster assistance for other counties impacted by the storms. It is critical that those who have not reported damage to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security do so to ensure need for assistance can be accurately measured.
