Earlier today Congressman Ami Bera (CA-7) voted for the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act to support Sacramento County farmers.

He offered the following comment:

"While it is not perfect, the Farm Bill is crucial to the farmers and agricultural workers in Sacramento County who need a solid foundation for success. The Sacramento County region sits at the heart of one of the most vibrant agricultural areas in the world, and this Farm Bill will expand job training resources, foster job creation in the green economy, protect our natural resources, continue to fund specialty crop grants, and support and expand agriculture research. It is also a positive sign that, on the heels of the bipartisan budget agreement, Republicans and Democrats came together to pass this critical legislation. The Farm Bill I voted for today also restores much of the food aid funding I have been championing."

The legislation passed by the House in July 2013 would have eliminated food aid eligibility for 3.8 million Americans, cuts that Bera has voted and spoken against. Much of that funding is restored in this compromise legislation, and no one will lose basic food aid eligibility.
