Issue Position

Providing proper funding for human services and expanding and improving Medicaid coverage for the poor are essential. As a member of the Champaign County Board, I saw the difficulties imposed on the county nursing home when state Medicaid payments lagged behind sometimes as much as nine months. I will also advocate for greater investment in mental health services. Too many people with mental health problems wind up homeless or in jails or prisons. This is not a compassionate, nor cost effective, approach that respects human rights.
