Becerra on 50th Vote to Repeal and Undermine the Affordable Care Act

Statement

Congressman Xavier Becerra, Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives voted for the 50th time to repeal and undermine the Affordable Care Act, our nation's health security law:

"Does this bill put Americans back to work? No. Does it expand economic opportunities or strengthen the middle class? No. Sadly, House Republicans would rather vote for the 50th time to repeal and undermine our health security law while neglecting the priorities of the American people.

"The individual responsibility provision is a critical part of our health security law. Delaying this provision, as this legislation does, would raise premium charges and undermine the access to affordable health coverage that millions of Americans now enjoy. While Republicans have obsessed over dead-end votes to dismantle our health security law, over 4 million Americans have signed up for private insurance on the marketplaces, another 3 million young American can now stay on their parents' insurance plan, and millions more are eligible for Medicaid coverage.

"It's time for this do-nothing Congress to move past the partisan game of shutdown politics. With the people's work and priorities denied a single vote in the House so far, enough is enough. Let's take action this year to guarantee equal pay for equal work, raise the minimum wage, renew long-term unemployment insurance for American workers who are out of a job through no fault of their own and finally fix our broken immigration system."
