Issue Position

The US has become an unfriendly place to do business. Many companies fear the environment of uncertainty, complicated tax structure and onslaught of costly regulations and as a result, choose to sit on the sidelines and not hire or expand. This has led to a lingering unemployment rate above 8% nationwide.

The US economy can be rebuilt through tax reform, repeal of burdensome and costly regulations and passage of incentives to spur innovation. As a member of the Intellectual Property Subcommittee on the House Judiciary Committee, I am working to ensure that US intellectual property is protected here at home and around the world. Innovation made this country great, and it is American innovation that will allow us to lead the world economy once again. However, the rest of the world needs to play by the rules. When everybody plays by the rules, I am 100% confident that no other country can beat American innovation and ingenuity.

I supported the Free Trade Agreements with South Korea, Panama and Colombia, three agreements that are expected to create 250,000 jobs nationwide and many economic opportunities in Texas, especially at our ports. Supporting an all-of-the-above energy policy, rather than the Administration's none-from-below policy, would bring many lost jobs in the energy sector back to SE Texas.

Similarly, I continue to advocate for approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would end in Southeast Texas. This Congress, I introduced the Keystone For a Secure Tomorrow Act (K-FAST), which would allow Congress to immediately approve the permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline and help create thousands of jobs in the construction and energy sectors.
