Issue Position: State Sovereignty and Individual Rights

Issue Position

The 10th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads: "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." The federal government has used a gross misinterpretation of the General Welfare Clause, the Commerce Clause, or the Necessary and Proper Clause to justify regulating activities that are outside its proper authority.

The Declaration of Independence identifies certain unalienable rights, from God, not from federal, state, or local governments. All individual rights, even those not specifically enumerated in our nation's Bill of Rights, are insured by the 9th Amendment. I will oppose legislative acts that unconstitutionally enlarge government authority and threaten our individual freedom.
