Congressman Xavier Becerra on Senate Passage of Legislation to Renew Unemployment Insurance

Statement

Date: April 7, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, released the following statement after the U.S. Senate passed legislation to renew long-term unemployment insurance for millions of American workers who lost their jobs through no fault of their own:

"While the House of Representatives has failed to act for 100 days, the Senate has passed legislation to renew unemployment insurance for more than 2.3 million American workers who lost their jobs through no fault of their own. What are the Republicans who control Congress waiting for?

"Too many American workers and their families are suffering the consequences of costly partisan obstruction and every additional week of inaction throws another 72,000 Americans into a state of economic insecurity. It's time for the House to finally take action.

"Mr. Speaker, we demand a vote to restore unemployment insurance for more than 2 million of our fellow Americans who seek nothing more than a chance to get back to work."
