Bera: Disappointed Partisan Politics Got in the Way of Medicare solution

Press Release

Earlier today the U.S. House of Representatives passed by voice vote H.R. 4302, the so-called "Protecting Access to Medicare Act," which prolongs a broken system. Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. offered the following comment:

"As a doctor, I know firsthand how critical strengthening Medicare is for our seniors, and I'm deeply disappointed that an unprecedented, bipartisan agreement on Medicare reform has been cast aside over partisan politics for yet another temporary fix. The endless cycle of short-term patches that add to an unstable system and hold doctors back from bringing innovative care to their patients is no longer acceptable. We must pass a long-term solution to the broken system that Congress created and that has failed us for more than a decade, and honor the promises we have made to our seniors so they can get the health care they deserve after a lifetime of hard work."
