Blackburn: "The IRS Has A Credibility Problem'

Statement

Date: April 15, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) issued the following statement in response to comments made by IRS Commissioner John Koskinen yesterday saying it will take "years" for the IRS to comply and produce documents subpoenaed by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

"I was disappointed to learn of Commissioner Koskinen's comments yesterday. The IRS has time to re-write rules and take 150,000 public comments regarding non-profits, but it will take "years' to respond to congressional inquiries about the targeting of conservative American taxpayers. The IRS has a credibility problem and needs to lift the cloud of corruption hanging over it before moving forward with reforms. Lois Lerner can hide behind her criminal attorneys and the 5th Amendment, but the IRS cannot. The American people deserve transparency."
