NAS Fallon Housing Bill Passes House, Again

Press Release

Date: May 22, 2014
Location: Washington, DC

For the second time this Congress, the Naval Air Station (NAS) Fallon Housing and Safety Development Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives today as part of a bill to fund the nation's military -- the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). Introduced by Congressman Mark Amodei (NV-2), the NAS Fallon bill would transfer a 400-acre Bureau of Land Management (BLM) parcel within the confines of the base to the Secretary of the Navy to be used for Navy family housing.

"This request is more than 20 years old and the transfer of the parcel, which is surrounded by NAS Fallon land, is long overdue," said Amodei. "Most importantly, this land would enable the Navy to upgrade its housing without displacing families from their current homes."

The land would be used for 200 new homes for Navy families and would provide needed flexibility to enable the base to grow. In 1991, the BLM was notified of the Navy's intentions for this parcel, but more than 20 years later, the transfer has still not occurred. The lands bill passed the House last year as part of the NDAA for Fiscal Year 2014. It was stripped out in the Senate.
