Today the U.S. Supreme Court upheld in a 5-4 decision the right of local officials to open their town council meetings with prayer. Congressman Kevin Cramer released the following statement on the ruling:

"This decision is a victory for the rich tradition of faith expression in our country. I am pleased to have been a party to the case by signing onto an amicus brief. The fact four liberal justices are willing to throw out the rights of local governments to open sessions in prayer is a sign of how far our nation is slipping and how important it is to address the forced secularization of our culture."

The decision in Town of Greece v. Galloway can be found here. Last year Cramer signed an amicus brief in favor of the city officials, citing the longstanding tradition of opening prayer in policymaking bodies including the U.S. House of Representatives.
