Ensuring Public Safety
Maryland's crime rate is the lowest it has been since the 1970's and passing into law one of the most stringent gun control measures in the country is a win. However, we must continue to work hard streamline the criminal justice system, address overcrowding in our state correctional facilities, improve security while supporting programs for the rehabilitation of prisoners. We must also invest in our police force and provide necessary and appropriate safety officials and reinforced security measures at our schools.

On the Ways and Means committee, Delegate Miller was a co-sponsor of several bills that focused on emergency preparedness such as HB0983, requiring each county board of education to evaluate the emergency management plan of each school in their district.
Delegate Miller has also been a strong supporter of improving the district's criminal justice system so that correction facilities are equipped to provide adequate supervision services in state and local correctional facilities with a focus on lowering recidivism rates.
Even with historical lows for violent crime, Delegate Miller has been an unfailing advocate of investing money to protect public safety by targeting the most violent offenders, and developing crime prevention programs for our youth.
More importantly, Delegate Miller works hard to earn the respect of those public servants that have a sworn duty to protect our citizens from harm.
